The 4 c's of diamond jewellery

Carat refers to the diamond’s weight. It’s often expressed as a number (e.g., 1 carat, 2 carats). While carat weight can be important to some, it’s more critical that your diamond is well-cut. A diamond of any carat weight can be extraordinary if it’s well-cut.

Diamond color ranges from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown). However, there’s no need to overpay for a D color diamond. An H or I color diamond, depending on the setting, will look just as clear and white as a colorless grade diamond.

Almost all diamonds have imperfections. Clarity refers to how many blemishes and inclusions the diamond has, along with how noticeable they are. Opt for a diamond that’s eye-clean, meaning you can’t see imperfections unless you put it under magnification.

Cut is the biggest factor that plays into how brilliant and beautiful a diamond is. It refers to how well a diamond is cut and polished. Finding the perfect harmony between the 4 Cs will help you balance beauty and value when looking for a diamond

lab diamond

Lab-grown diamonds, are created in high-tech laboratories. Despite their lab origin, these diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to natural diamonds. They share the same crystal structure and hardness as mined diamonds. When it comes to sparkle, both lab-grown and mined diamonds are visually indistinguishable to the naked eye, displaying a full range of quality characteristics. Advantages of lab-grown diamonds include being environmental sustainability, reduced impact on human labor, and affordability, making them an excellent choice for conscious consumers.

Without GIA certification it’s challenging to differentiate between lab-grown and natural diamonds. Both are real diamonds, but their origins and creation methods set them apart.

Natural Diamond

Natural diamonds are remarkable gemstones formed deep within the Earth’s mantle under extreme heat and pressure. Composed mainly of carbon atoms arranged in a crystal lattice structure, they exhibit unique properties such as hardness, brilliance, and durability. Over billions of years, geological events contribute to the development of these extraordinary gems. Unlike lab diamonds, natural diamonds bear the distinct characteristics of their origin. The presence of certain syngenetic inclusions serves as evidence of their natural origin. These exquisite jewels have been prized throughout history for their exceptional beauty and rarity, making them a symbol of steadfast love and endurance.
