Best colour emaralds?
The most desirable emerald colors are bluish green to pure green, with vivid color saturation and tone that's not too dark. The most-prized emeralds are highly transparent. Their color is evenly distributed, with no eye-visible color zoning.
Clarity of emeralds?
The higher the clarity, the more brilliance and liveliness that is exubed by the emerald. Clarity is the most significant factor in emerald quality. An emerald with good color, cut, and carat weight needs good clarity to bring life and fire - Without this the stone will appear very opaque to the eye. This poor clarity could represent durability problems
Emerald is 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale and has fair to good toughness, making it a stone that requires more care in wearing than ruby or sapphire. Even so, emeralds are beautiful stones for all types of jewelry and with proper care will last for generations.
A good quality emerald may sell for somewhere between $525 and $1,125, a five carat (5.0 ct.) emerald of similar quality could sell for between $7,500 and $15,000 ( prices are for comparison only, exact prices vary according to market demand).
